Persuading the Drakenstein Municipality of the merits of developing a fairly substantial mixeduse development that included a retail centre on the site took some time, but succeeded mainly due to the vision for the development presented after extensive research by André Oberholzer of Haus Developments. The mixed-use proposal presented included a housing development over approximately 60 % of the site, with the remaining 40 % accommodating the Optenhorst Village retail development.
