Sustainable Design Elements The dominant colour of the warehouse component is sea spray white which was chosen for its thermal performance and its ability to reduce heat gain .
The strategic placement of polycarbonate sheeting ensures that there is maximum distribution of natural lighting across the warehouse floor , thereby reducing the facility ’ s reliance on artificial lighting . The fact that half of the warehouse is partially below natural ground level created the additional benefit of stabilising the ambient environment in the warehouse . Vertical sun control is utilised on a small portion of the office façade facing northwest . The louvres are painted red to deliberately promote the SEW- Eurodrive brand colour . Horizontal sun control is utilised on the north facing façade of the multi volume entrance foyer . Solar performance glass has been specified throughout the office component of the facility .
The warehouse roof houses a solar plant of the following specification :
• 544 * 545w Canadian Solar panels = 296.5 kWp DC
• Estimated production 365 days = 483.7MWh
• Inverter capacity 220kW AC
• 1,800m 2 of roof space utilised
Conclusion The facility is expected to enable Sew-Eurodrive to more efficiently and effectively service customers both in Gauteng and in the rest of Africa .
