DIRECTOR REPORTS - 2018/2019
CAROL RICKETTS - PRESIDENTS REPORT
The outcome of the 2018/2019 financial year, showing a
surplus of $22,192, is a pleasing result compared to last year’s
loss. A great turnaround when you take into consideration the
problems our members, and others, have experienced through
drought, and in some cases flooding, over the last few years.
To our members, affected by this inclement weather, we are
hoping there is a better year ahead for you.
Thank you to the Board of Directors and Staff for setting, and
abiding by, a very tight budget over the last 12 months.
Looking forward, we will: Implement new diverse educational/
online programs;
Continue to promote and give recognition to the different
equine disciplines that the quarter horse excels in; and Improve
the services offered to members.
Last, but the most important, thank you to our Members and
our Affiliates who continually support the quarter horse in
Australia - your love of the quarter horse has no bounds.
KIM JOHNSON - STUDBOOK REPORT
The Studbook committee has an ongoing commitment to
maintain the integrity of our Breed, and developing new ideas
which will benefit us into the future, we have been working on
Breeders awards, and incentives to develop recognition for our
breeders both in performance and end of year awards.
We are hoping to have these and will be in place by 2020,
we ask every breeder if you have any input please email me.
AQHA, moving forward is looking to develop and increase our
online services which will make it easier for the Breeders to do
all paper work. Thank you, to our committee for all their hard
work, looking forward to 2020.
KIM JOHNSON - INTERNATIONAL REPORT
We have been very active in our International portfolio. Firstly,
the Australasian/Africa summit was held in Melbourne during
July. Representatives from New Zealand, New Caledonia,
Canada, Australia, Japan and China participated in the Summit
which led to some very robust discussion on topics which
affect us as members of the AmQHA internationally.
This was a healthy discussion for the future moving forward
with alot of constructive ideas put forward to the AmQHA. This
Summit is scheduled to occur every two years and could be in
any country that is in our AmQHA international region.
Secondly, we attended the AmQHA Convention in March 2019.
All reports gained from the Convention have been passed on
to the relevant portfolio holders and are also available on the
AQHA website for all members to read.
Thank you, Kim Johnson
TRISH WETTENHALL - HONORARY TREASURER REPORT
This year has had its challenges financially, the Board have
worked diligently to keep control of finances. Working with a
tight budget and revising on a regular basis.
With a downturn of income in memberships and registrations,
the Manger has reduced office costs to keep spending in line.
All Board members have made a conscious effort to reduce the
costs within their portfolios
The bottom line of the budget has ended up in the positive
after a negative in 2018.
The Board will continue to keep your Association in a financially
viable position.
PAUL LORIMER - 2018/2019
The 2018/2019 show season has held its own considering the
stagnant Australian economy. The AQHA recorded points from
126 ‘A’ shows, 28 ‘AA” shows, 6 ‘AAA’ State Shows, 1 ‘AAAA’
National Show. I would like to this opportunity to thank the
hard working staff of the AQHA for their work in the Show &
Performance section.
The new iComptete Computer program is up and running and
has overcome most of its teething challenges. I recommend
everyone login in and look at all its features such as the ability
to print ROM’s etc.
An updated rule book was released on the 1st August particularly
to include the new American scoring system for many classes
and updated Ranch Versatility rules. Ranch Versatility Shows
are proving to be a success and hopefully they will introduce
many new competitors to the world of AQHA showing.
The multi-judged shows have also proven to be a success this
year and I urge Show Committees to consider the 1 day 60
class multi judged show. The 60 classes allows for a reasonable
number of ridden events, Halter classes for not just Quarter
Horses and is particularly suited to arenas with limited stables.
As always, I believe the Rule Book should be a fluid document
so that it can respond to the member’s needs.
I would urge all members to submit suggestions for any Show
and Performance issue.
KATE ELLIOTT - AMATEUR REPORT
It’s been an great year for the Amateur Division rolling out a
new series of Free Trail Clinics for Amateurs across Australia.
The Amateur Trans Tasman Team has been finalised and is
excited to fly out to NZ in September.
We wish each Amateur team member and the team collectively,
an enjoyable experience with the added bonus of camaraderie
and friendship. The Amateur Teams Challenges held across
each AQHA State Championship has been well contested
and we congratulate the recipients of the Amateur Division
founded prizes! Equitanas AQHA breed village was hosted
by the Amateur Division in 2018 and plans are underway
for 2020. Finally I would like to thank the Amateur Division
Committee for their supportive role of both myself as Director
and of the membership as I conclude my three year term as
Amateur Director.
RICKY GLEN - CATTLE AND TIMED EVENTS REPORT
Dear Members,
It’s with great pleasure that I again present my report for the
Cattle and Timed Events Portfolio.
The 2018/2019 season again saw the AQHA support this side
of the industry to the tune of $33,000.00 paid out in incentives
to registered Australian Quarter Horses and either their
breeders or owners.
This side of our industry is huge. It’s the source of the highest
slice of the income to the AQHA and if you give a thought as
to what is spent on the other side of our industry with the
Nationals, Judges Seminars, Youth promotions such as Youth
World Cup, and of course Trans-Tasman, the money allocated to
my portfolio should be a lot more but with budget constraints,
this is what I was permitted to budget for.
For the second year, the Willinga Park Campdraft was held and
like last year, a registered Australian Quarter Horse won it again
ridden by Pete Comisky and again it paid $100,000.00 to the
