winner. Same results as well again this year at the Landmark
Classic Sale where again the top priced horse was a Quarter
Horse bringing in excess of $200,000.00.
The AQHA were once again the naming rights sponsor of the
Open Derby at the 2019 NCHA Futurity. The AQHA are proud
sponsors of the Warwick Gold Cup Campdraft and Stallion
Campdraft. At the Landmark Classic Campdraft the AQHA
sponsor the Classic campdraft, the Young Guns Campdraft
and the Stallion Shootout. The AQHA are also sponsors of
the Australian Barrel Horse Association Finals, the Cloncurry
Stockmans Challenge and this year we are once again support
the ACA (Australian Campdraft Association) Campdraft finals.
As well as the above, we support smaller groups or events by
way of rugs or merchandise sponsorship.
Testament to the promotion of these events was more than
prevalent this year at Q19 with the income from the Cutting
and Campdrafting boosting the income for the show to ensure
a major loss was not had.
After years of neglect by the AQHA, this side of the industry is
again seeing the AQHA as a supporting partner.
In closing, I would like to thank my subcommittee with Kim
Johnson being my TIC., Phill Webb, Rob Leach and of course
Peter Gesler.
It’s with a sad heart to inform those of you of Peters untimely
and recent death and we send our thought to his wife, Debbie
and their family. Peter was a long time member, breeder and
competitor in cutting and campdraft and his knowledge and
guidance in the future will be sorely missed.
If I am again successful to be elected onto the of the AQHA
board, I will seek to retain this portfolio in the future. I would
also like to thank our general manager, Gemma Clarke who is
my contact in the office and with her contacts in and about
Tamworth, ensured that Q19 had plenty of cattle. As always,
I am always available to the membership ready to answer
questions; my contact details are listed on the AQHA Website.
With thanks, Ricky Glen
(Chairperson Cattle and Timed Event Portfolio)
RICKY GLEN - HALL OF FAME REPORT
Dear AQHA Members,
Again, like in previous years, I am privileged to present my
Annual Report for the Hall Of Fame portfolio.
I would like to thank my subcommittee, Kim Johnson my TIC.,
Karen Thrun and Sue William who reads and researches many
of the applications we receive at the AQHA for both people
and horses. I would also like to thank Marg Hausfeld at the
AQHA office for her assistance with Hall of Fame.
As you must know, this portfolio is very close to my heart as
I instigated this portfolio many, many years ago to recognise
both the people and horses which have contributed to making
the AQHA into what it is today.
The nominations forms for the Hall Of Fame are available on
the web site and I invite any person who would like to nominate
a person or Horse to please do so. When the nominations are
received, the AQHA sends nominations to the subcommittee.
The office does a search of points achieved and progeny of the
said horses. The thing which we can’t research is the personal
history of the said horse or person and this is what makes the
story for our Hall Of Fame Nominees.
We do get some criticism from people
regarding nominations but as with past nominees, we have
a comparison to go by and this helps with our nomination
process.
At this year’s annual dinner, we welcome Murray and Shirley
Davidson and Phil Webb to accept their Hall of Fame inductions.
This is our heritage for the new members and for others to
learn about our heritage and past. As before, please contact
me regarding any questions about the Hall Of Fame.
With Thanks, Ricky Glen (Chairperson Hall of Fame Subcommittee)
CRAIG RATH - YOUTH REPORT
The AQHA has worked hard to engage the membership and
affiliates this year to obtain information to help make informed
decisions as we look to the challenges and opportunities facing
the association and industry in both the short and long term.
This information can be used to form the basis of an action
plan for the association in order to change some of the known
and perceived challenges currently being experienced.
As most members are now aware, I stepped aside from the
Youth Portfolio earlier this year and would like to thank
everyone that entrusted me with their support and kind words
throughout my term holding this portfolio.
NICOLE DAVISON - YOUTH REPORT
I would like to firstly acknowledge the work and dedication
that Craig Rath has given to this portfolio during his time as
Youth Convenor. Craig has done an outstanding job and has
done his utmost to support the youth membership of the
AQHA, and we are very appreciative of his contribution.
Our State shows, and National Show we well attended this
year, and we appreciate the support of the families involved.
Both our Trans-Tasmin and Youth World Cup teams were
announced earlier this year. Our Trans-Tasmin youth team are
well underway in preparation for their trip to New Zealand in
September. We want to congratulate all those selected and
wish them the best of luck in representing Australia at each
event. The AQHA is proud of our youth and aims to ensure our
current, and future youth members are respectful, encouraging,
supportive sportsmen and women and most of all ensure our
sport is about having a great time. I look forward to assisting
in the support and growth of our youth division in the future.
LORELEI PAYNE - NON TRADITIONAL
The year that was. Due to the Australian hardship of drought
and continual rising costs of hay and feed prices. It has been a
very hard year or everyone trying to show their horses.
My sub committee and I have rectified the National Show
programme for Hack and Show Hunter proper height classes
and equal Select and Amateur chases.
There has been many questions about what is the correct
attire in Dressage and Hack and Show Hunter classes.
I am attempting to put together a National Video of Presentation
and workouts for the for the correct way of judging Hacks and
Show Hunters as well as child classes for the show ring. I would
like to make this available to everyone in the AQHA and other
breed societies. Let’s hope the Drought will brake and make
feeding horses again reasonably priced.
JOANNE GREGORY - JUDGING
The judging sub committee have met and agreed that we need
to move with the times and change our judges seminars to an
on line format.
We feel that the benefits to our existing and new judges will be
immense as it will be a lot less expensive and save time as well.
We have been busy working towards this move and it should be
available next year if not earlier. With this in mind we cancelled
our seminar this year as we had no new applicants and with the
on line coming soon our judges can do their refreshers on line.
We still feel that it is important for our judges to network so
we will be holding judges conventions periodically.
I wish to thank our judges and my sub committee for their
hard work over this past year. Also thanks to our affiliates and
members who work hard to ensure we have shows to go to so
we can showcase our wonderful quarter horses.
