Gatton Quarter Horse & Performance Association once again hosted the
Sunshine State Quarter Horse Show Week from June 30th to July 7th.
T
he show was held at Gatton Showgrounds which
is located in the beautiful Lockyer Valley in
Queensland. The Sunshine State turned on glorious
warm weather to welcome Competitors, Supporters
and Spectators from as far afield as Victoria and South
Australia along with competitors from as far as Townsville
in North Queensland.
Eight fabulous days of showing kicked off with 3 days of
the Winter Sun Classic Show, which featured the final leg
of the Western Performance Breeders Group Southern
Cross Circuit.
The Winter Sun Classic Show was judged by Mr Mike
Edwards from Monroe, Washington USA and Mr Glenn
Wyse. Sunday started with Ranch Riding, Reining and
Western Riding before Hunter Under Saddle.
GQHPA HUS Amateur Stakes was won by Lyndall Dauth
riding VS Heartbeat Q-73998 & the Youth Owner HUS
Feature was won by Charley Lalor riding Stetsin Q-81642.
Trail features completed the first day of showing.
Monday started with the remaining Trail classes, show
casing some lovely runs with great numbers especially in
the Junior Horse Trail with Splash of Potential Q-80877
ridden by Matt Freiberg being the unanimous winner from
20 entrants.
The Trans-Tasman Fundraising Walk Jog Feature was well
supported on Monday Evening with most competitors
getting into the spirit of the Black & White Theme. Trans-
Tasman Team Members Amelia Galea and Sharnte Wilson
were on hand to present the winner Julie Rea with a
beautiful garland and prizes.
The third day of the Winter Sun Classic Show began with
the hunter in hand classes followed by the GQHPA Halter
Futurities. Cause Im Worth It won the Weanling Futurity
shown by Samantha Daley. SD Mystique Q-91623 also
shown by Samantha Daley was the winner of the Yearling
Futurity. The 2 year Old Futurity DND Exceptionally
Icey Q-86015 shown by Toni Scown and the 3 Year Old
Futurity was won by Im A Celebrity Q-83417 owned and
shown by Christine Sewell. BM Subtlety Q-75560 once
again took out the 4 years and over Futurity.
Wednesday was host to the American Quarter Horse
Show. Judged by Mike Edwards (USA) and Glenn Wyse.
Numbers were up this year for this show with just over 40
AmQHA registered horses and competitors. Junior horse
classes were among the most popular events this year.
