run of 217 points was Driving Miss Royal Q-82096, shown
by Aaron Wheatley for owner Mark Ruff. Bred by SDM
Quarter Horses, Driving Miss Royal is a 2014 chestnut
daughter of the stunning One Time Royalty Q-72108
(imp) and Elizabeth Drive Q-69209.
Finishing next with equal 216 marking runs were the red
roan son of RS Chisum Q-60660 (imp) and Truclass Slik
Chick Q-70449, Slik Chisum Q-80164, shown by Jamie
Creek for Cynthia and David Merygold, a red roan son of
Metallic Cat Q-72828 (IS) and Stylish In Time Q-71935,
Shines Like Metallic Q-84726, with Phil Dawson aboard
for Belinda Staib, Stylish Player Q-81741 shown by Dean
Holden for Jodie Mearns and Chris Ware and the red roan

Going into the fifteen horse final with the highest
Aggregate Score of 432 points from Go Round One and
Two was Shines Like Metallic, shown by Phil Dawson for
Belinda Staib.
Blistering the crowd with an exciting and brilliant marking
run of 219 points to win the prestigious 2019 Australian
Quarter Horse Association Open Derby Champion title
and accolades was Jodie Mearns and Chris Ware’s super
and stylish Stylish Player Q-81741 with Dean Holden in
the saddle.
With a great marking run of 218 points Duplicity Q-84472
and Todd Graham took out the 2019 Australian Quarter
Horse Association Open Derby Reserve Championship
for owners Lloyd and Carlee Neilson.
Finishing in third place with an impressive run of 214.5
points was Shines Like Metallic Q-84726 with Phil
Dawson aboard for Belinda Staib.
Overall the event was what cutting is all about, amazingly
trained super athletic cutting horses, incredible showmen
and women, great people. Topped with a happy and
professional atmosphere.

Association Open Derby I caught up for exclusive
interviews with one of the owners of the Open Derby
Champion Horse Stylish Player Q-71741 Jodie Mearns
and professional cutting horse trainer Dean Holden.
