- Portfolio : Youth Portfolio Report 2022
I am please to bring you my report for the Youth Portfolio . Being elected to the BOD last October , I was nominated to look after the Youth portfolio , which had not been active for the past few years , mainly due to Covid .
Picking up the Division and looking down the barrel of International Youth events such as Youth World Cup 2023 and the Trans Tasman , in 2022 , also with Covid boundaries still restricting us , has seen little time this year to organise the two events however , and I am pleased to announce we have undertaken the large task , and both events are well under way .
The Youth Division held their AGM at Q22 , with 19 children in attendance . It was very encouraging to see so many Youth at the meeting , a new committee was formed , and all very are enthusiastic with some fantastic ideas to engage more Youth in our industry .
Our Youth fundraising is well underway . Rug raffles , stallion auctions , silent auctions , practice trails , clubs donating , members donating , parents donating , and securing corporate sponsorship from Johnson Feeds and having the NCHA on board as a major sponsor and partner for the YWC 2023 , we can boast well over $ 17,000 to date in fundraising going towards the future of our Youth .
The Board have agreed in principle for the portfolio to partner with NCHA and run Cutting and Camp draft camps for our Youth . Talks are underway for this for next year . I look forward to joining forces with the NCHA to support the Youth members .
Youth World Cup 2023 arrangements are well underway . The selection camp was held at Tamworth July this year . 15 kids , 15 horses , 15 parents , 3 clinicians , 1 manger and 1 very important cook , and Gemma in the office , saw the 5 days a huge success . This year it was agreed to take a designated cutter and designated reiner with the team , which saw all of the kids head out to Yuglibar for the cutting module . Thanks goes to the NCHA for their input on the selection process for the cutting applicants . With all of the early cold mornings starts , and late nights it was so encouraging to see all of these kids having fun , making lifelong friendships and lifelong memories , I believe our future is in great hands , and I wish each and every one of you all the best in your selection .
The Trans Tasman will be held at Benalla , Victoria in September this year , with the Team being presented at Q22 this year , we look forward to some fierce competition , and look forward to cheering our Aussies on !
I would like to thank my sub committee for your ongoing support , President and Youth mentor , Kim Johnson , Gemma Clarke and the BOD , for supporting me as the Youth portfolio director and hope to keep our momentum moving forward into the following year .

- Portfolio : Show & Performance Report
The 2021 / 2022 show season has seen a return to close to usual number of approved shows after the hard times we have faced due to the COVID pandemic , floods and drought .
This show season the AQHA recorded points from 82 B shows , 173 ‘ A ’ shows , 29 ‘ AA ” shows , 6 ‘ AAA ’ State Shows , 1 ‘ AAAA ’ National Show and 143 “ A ” events run by Approved Performance Bodies . This is a great indication of the resilience of AQHA members and the versatility of the Australian Quarter Horse . I would like to this opportunity to thank the hard working staff of the AQHA for their work in the Show & Performance section .

- Portfolio : Judging
This year saw the continuation of the on-line judging portal . Since its inception two years ago we have had 47 expressions of interest in becoming a judge and 22 applicants sit for the judges testing .
The Show and Performance sub-committee has a had a number of ZOOM Meetings over the last 2 years considering a number of suggestions from members and from within the sub-committee . A presentation was made to the Board resulting in some rule changes in the 2022 Rule Book
The Show & Performance sub-committee made some recommendations to the Board resulting in some funds being made available for the promotion of Versatility Ranch Shows . The AQHA Board has once again agreed to make some funds available for the sponsorship of Reining and Quarter Horse Racing .
With thanks Paul Lorimer
I feel that the concept has made it easier and cheaper for any member to sit for their judging exams which is a positive for the process .
We also hosted the Judging Convention in Sydney on the weekend of 30th & 31st July . I felt this was a great
