DIRECTOR REPORTS - 2021 / 2022
SHANE MASSINGHAM
- Portfolio : Affiliates
While 2022 has been a little less stressful , we have still seen affiliates doing it tough in some states with cancellation of shows due to low entries .
With high fuel prices and rising costs in other areas , clubs will need to be mindful of this to get people back to their local shows .
The offer to reduce Affiliate fees for the last 12 months was welcomed widely by the affiliates . In this show year , we have decided it was time for another affiliates conference and plans are underway to hold this sometime in July 2023 .
Again , throughout the last 12 months on the board , I have been in contact via zoom to a number of Affiliates and once again we saw a successful affiliates meeting in Qld with just 1 show that conflicted .
Our Victorian Affiliates got together earlier in the year and worked out their busy show year dates and unopposed dates , without issues . We did see State Shows held in 2022 show year again in Victoria , Tas , NSW , WA , SA and Qld .
During the last 12 months we have had 1 returning regular Affiliate apply to join our ranks again and congratulations and welcome go to the committee of the Hastings Performance & Quarter Horse Club located at Port Macquarie NSW .
There were a number of Affiliate newsletters sent out during the year to keep all clubs up to date with changes and other items of importance .
One of these was the use of ICompete to submit show approvals and also submit show results , which has started to gain popularity among the affiliates and saves on approval fees also using this method .
After discussions with Western Dressage Australia , we were able to offer lower level Western Dressage tests at our AQHA State & National shows for our members .
We wish all affiliates the very best for the new season and improvements can be made to help grow the industry if we stay united .
With Thanks Shane Massingham

- Portfolio : Cattle and Timed Events
Dear Members , The last 12 months has seen events covered under this portfolio come back as strong as ever post Covid . I pray that this never effects our industry again in the way it has these past few years .
The campdraft industry grows stronger and stronger and it ’ s a usual sight to see entries in these events in the hundreds with the leading events paying out $ 100,000 to the winner of these .
The Nutrien sale at Tamworth in 2022 again saw a Quarter Horse top the sale at $ 550,000 and the sale had an all time sales record in excess of $ 11,000,000 and the Quarter Horse were a big part of this outstanding success . Other sales about the country were also a huge success and the bulk of these horses were sold into the working cattle side of the industry .
The AQHA sponsored the NCHA Open Derby were incentive payouts were awarded to the owners and breeders of the highest placing Quarter Horses .
The AQHA also paid out incentives at Campdrafts , Challenges and other cattle and timed related events in 2022 of over $ 50,000 .
This portfolio is responsible for over 50 % of the AQHA yearly income which shows the impact of the cattle and timed events has within the AQHA .
It is imperative that the AQHA continues to support this side of our industry and I would like to thank my subcommittee of Kim Johnson , Phil Webb and Kylie Tapp for there impact and guidance within the subcommittee and the board of the AQHA for there continued support .
With Thanks Ricky Glen
The NCHA Futurity was back bigger and better with the winner of the Open Futurity took home a winners cheque of $ 100,000 and of course this was a Quarter Horse .
