Chevron and Skypath STEM Experience
Thirty S3 students took part in the Chevron and Skypath STEM experience day . Students experienced a site tour of Chevron Aircraft Maintenance , an orientation of the Skypath tools workshop and then worked in small teams to complete the STEM bottle rocket challenge . The STEM challenge teams were supported by apprentice aircraft engineers including former Marr pupil – Mark Roberts . All students reported having an inspiring and informative experience around careers within STEM .
“ My day at Skypath
I haven ’ t been on a plane before , so being behind the scenes beforehand gave me quite a shock . When I first went inside the Chevron facility , I was amazed . The planes were huge , especially the Boeing 787 . We got to take a look at what ’ s beneath the skin of the planes , and I can ’ t even imagine the amount of combined effort it took to build . The wiring and the tech , and the craftsmanship was impeccable – it was amazing .
Next , we went along to the Skypath training facility , where he got to look at the workshop equipment and then make bottle rockets . Our team got creative and made a shark looking bottle rocket . Sadly , it didn ’ t really go too far .
Anyways , this was an experience of a lifetime , I surely won ’ t forget it .” Findlay S3
