Pennsylvania State Police from Lamar and Montoursville Visit Mill Hall Elementary
Members of the Pennsylvania State Police from the Lamar and Montoursville barracks visited Mill Hall Elementary in February to spend time in our classrooms. During their visits, they read to students, answered questions, and engaged in meaningful conversations. These interactions provided a wonderful opportunity to build positive relationships and strengthen connections between our students, school staff, and local law enforcement. We truly appreciate their time and commitment to supporting our school community.
Introducing Dez, the Therapy Dog
Meet a canine who loves his job! Desmond is a Certified Therapy Dog at Central Mountain High School. English Cocker Spaniels are known for their vibrant nature and willing attitude, and Dez certainly fits that bill. He was certified through ATD( Alliance of Therapy Dogs) in December of 2024. The process of certification involved testing the dog in various situations where therapy dogs might work, including nursing homes. Some dogs do not have the right temperament for social interaction. Dogs who are anxious or protective generally do not make good therapy dogs. While not every dog has the temperament for therapy work, Dez was made for it! Dez still makes visits to nursing homes, but his primary job is providing support to students during the school day. Most of the time, he can be found in Mrs. Akeley’ s science classroom, just inside the door, like a 4-legged Walmart greeter waiting for students to enter.
He is overjoyed to greet all students who would like to interact with him. When students are busy working, you can find him snoozing on his bed. His enthusiasm for any activity that the students are involved in knows no bounds. He firmly believes that the students are here to give him love, and they don’ t let him down! Students and staff alike seek him out on tough days, and it’ s no mystery why his furry presence has a way of melting stress away. When he walks through the hallway, the greetings he gets are reminiscent of Norm on Cheers. He’ s definitely a celebrity at CMHS and everybody knows his name!
