PA Mobile Ag Ed Science Lab- Grade Level: K-8
Avis Elementary had the great pleasure of hosting the PA Mobile Ag Lab in the month of March for an entire week, Monday, March 2nd thru Friday, March 6th.
The Mobile Ag Lab is an exciting, educational, and interactive program which helps our students become familiar with agricultural components of our state science standards. The Mobile Agriculture Education Science Lab is complete with supplies and a certified teacher.
The Ag Lab travels to a different elementary or middle school in Pennsylvania each week. The labs are designed to target grades K through 8. A 32 foot trailer, complete with heating and air conditioning, the mobile lab contains twelve working labs. Each station provides space for 2-3 students to complete handson experiments. The lab can accommodate up to nine hundred students per week, by teaching( five to six classes) that consist of a 30 to 50-minute science lessons.
In addition, the science curriculum taught at the Ag Lab meets Pennsylvania Department of Education Science & Technology and Environment & Ecology Standards and is endorsed by the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture. Avis students performed hands-on science experiments, each teaching a lesson in agriculture. The experiments performed include equipment and supplies not readily available to classroom teachers and are of a nature that most teachers would not want to tackle in a traditional classroom setting. Each science experiment is designed to emphasize a different aspect of agriculture, including Pennsylvania ' s primary commodities, the environment, biotechnology, food, and fiber, etc. Children work cooperatively to solve a problem as they form a hypothesis, collect data, and draw conclusions.
