Rebooting Robotics Club
SVRCS proudly reignited its Robotics Club this year with the goal of competing in the VEX VR Robotics Competition,“ Brawl at the Beaver Dam,” held at DuBois High School. After months of preparation, our team was excited to represent our school and put our hard work to the test in the competition game titled“ Push Back.”
Team members Cooper Shade and Alex Slaterbeck worked diligently designing, building, testing, and redesigning their robot to ensure it could perform at its best. Their dedication and perseverance were evident in every stage of the process. When we arrived at the competition on February 14th, the first step was robot inspection to ensure all parts met competition guidelines. After passing inspection, the team participated in interviews with judges, explaining their robot’ s design, strategy, and the steps they took to achieve their goals.
During the qualifying matches, each team was randomly paired with different alliance partners for every round. Success in these matches was critical, as the more wins a team earned, the better their chances of selecting an alliance partner for the elimination rounds. Although we did not perform as strongly as we had hoped during qualifications, Cooper and Alex remained focused and determined. Their resilience paid off when they secured a solid alliance partner for the elimination matches.
The elimination rounds were the most exciting part of the competition. Unlike qualifications, teams had only one opportunity to advance- each match determined whether you moved forward or were eliminated. Our team battled hard and advanced to the quarterfinals before being knocked out of the competition. While we had hoped to go even further, the experience was both rewarding and educational. The competition provided valuable lessons that will guide the Robotics Club as we continue to grow, improve, and prepare for future challenges.
