Turkey's denim fabric export may surge in 2018
Turkey’s export share of denim
fabrics is expected to see a
substantial increase in 2018
despite a decline in 2017. In 2017,
Turkey’s denim exports were US
$ 368.5 million, which was a 6.4
per cent slump from what it was
in 2016 (US $ 393.6 million). In
2017, the country had exported
US $ 52 million and US $ 47.4
million worth denim fabrics to
Tunisia and Egypt, respectively.
Besides, Turkey’s export to Italy
for the same period was US
$ 40 million. Together, these three
nations contributed to nearly
38 per cent of Turkey’s denim
fabric exports.
By the end of 2018,
Turkey, at the current
pace, is expected
to achieve US $ 390
million, which will be
an impressive increase
of 6 per cent.
By the end of 2018, Turkey, at
the current pace, is expected
to achieve US $ 390 million,
which will be an impressive
increase of 6 per cent. With the
EU and the US market becoming
increasingly favourable for
denim, 2018 should see Turkey
easily achieving the target.
Corroborating on the same, Fuat
Milap, Sales Executive, Kilim
Denim said, “Kilim has been
successful with European brands
mainly because Europeans
have good knowledge of denim
fabrics and know what to buy.
They have a good liking for
Turkish denim.” It is worth noting
that Turkey exports denim fabrics
majorly to Europe, North Africa
and the Far East.
CITI to launch ‘InnoTex 2018' to boost innovation
The Indian textiles & clothing
industry is going to witness the
first ever innovation contest that
has been launched in India. One
of the pioneer bodies in Textiles &
Clothing sector, the Confederation
of Indian Textile Industry (CITI)
has taken the charge to introduce
an innovation in Indian T&C, by
launching ‘InnoTex 2018’. Sanjay
K Jain, Chairman, CITI cited that
the contest will invite entries from
innovators with new concepts that
have been developed for the best
design, method, process, product
and cost reduction in any section
from fabric to the garment.
He further stated that CITI Young
Entrepreneurs Group (YEG) under
the Chairmanship and guidance
of Prashant Mohota has been
assigned with the task of organising
InnoTex. It is important to add
here that, YEG, an integral part of
CITI, was established for nurturing
young minds/talent of the Textiles
& Clothing Industry into capable
leaders of the future.
Notably, the North India Textile
Research Association also
known as NITRA will act as the
knowledge partner of the upcoming
event. “Having NITRA’s expertise
on board will aid in the proper
evaluation of the applications and
offer guidance to the participants,”
the Chairman further added.
The Chairman also marked out
that the Innovation Contests are
now necessary for any industry,
more particularly for the textiles
manufacturing sector, as they
not only enhance the standard
of the industry, but also increase
the overall competitiveness to
compete at the international
level.
The InnoTex 2018 will be
launched as a part of the
association’s celebrations and
all the applications will be
received online on CITI’s website.
Additionally, Prashant Mohota
elucidated that the winners of
the event will be given cash-prize
along with recognition in front
of the entire textile and clothing
industry. Companies and institutes
are barred from participating
directly and the innovation should
not be older than 1st April 2017
in order to participate. The final
round of the event will be hosted
at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi later
this year alongside the CITI Global
Textile Conclave 2018, another part
of the association’s diamond jubilee
celebration.
