TEX-FILE Turkey's denim fabric export may surge in 2018 Turkey’s export share of denim fabrics is expected to see a substantial increase in 2018 despite a decline in 2017. In 2017, Turkey’s denim exports were US $ 368.5 million, which was a 6.4 per cent slump from what it was in 2016 (US $ 393.6 million). In 2017, the country had exported US $ 52 million and US $ 47.4 million worth denim fabrics to Tunisia and Egypt, respectively. Besides, Turkey’s export to Italy for the same period was US $ 40 million. Together, these three nations contributed to nearly 38 per cent of Turkey’s denim fabric exports. By the end of 2018, Turkey, at the current pace, is expected to achieve US $ 390 million, which will be an impressive increase of 6 per cent. With the EU and the US market becoming increasingly favourable for denim, 2018 should see Turkey easily achieving the target. Corroborating on the same, Fuat Milap, Sales Executive, Kilim Denim said, “Kilim has been successful with European brands mainly because Europeans have good knowledge of denim fabrics and know what to buy. They have a good liking for Turkish denim.” It is worth noting that Turkey exports denim fabrics majorly to Europe, North Africa and the Far East. CITI to launch ‘InnoTex 2018' to boost innovation The Indian textiles & clothing industry is going to witness the first ever innovation contest that has been launched in India. One of the pioneer bodies in Textiles & Clothing sector, the Confederation of Indian Textile Industry (CITI) has taken the charge to introduce an innovation in Indian T&C, by launching ‘InnoTex 2018’. Sanjay K Jain, Chairman, CITI cited that the contest will invite entries from innovators with new concepts that have been developed for the best design, method, process, product and cost reduction in any section from fabric to the garment. He further stated that CITI Young Entrepreneurs Group (YEG) under the Chairmanship and guidance of Prashant Mohota has been assigned with the task of organising InnoTex. It is important to add here that, YEG, an integral part of CITI, was established for nurturing young minds/talent of the Textiles & Clothing Industry into capable leaders of the future. Notably, the North India Textile Research Association also known as NITRA will act as the knowledge partner of the upcoming event. “Having NITRA’s expertise on board will aid in the proper evaluation of the applications and offer guidance to the participants,” the Chairman further added. The Chairman also marked out that the Innovation Contests are now necessary for any industry, more particularly for the textiles manufacturing sector, as they not only enhance the standard of the industry, but also increase the overall competitiveness to compete at the international level. The InnoTex 2018 will be launched as a part of the association’s celebrations and all the applications will be received online on CITI’s website. Additionally, Prashant Mohota elucidated that the winners of the event will be given cash-prize along with recognition in front of the entire textile and clothing industry. Companies and institutes are barred from participating directly and the innovation should not be older than 1st April 2017 in order to participate.
