Karnataka: Increased minimum wage expected
to be notified in 6 months
Finally, with the new Government
in Karnataka, the state’s 4 lakh
apparel workers can expect
to get increased minimum
wages in next 6 to 8 months.
This long-pending issue was
highlighted in a meeting recently,
in which Karnataka’s Chief
Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy,
representatives of Garment and
Textile Workers’ Union and All
India Trade Union Congress
(AITUC) participated. Apparel
Online got to know that the new
minimum wage is expected to
be notified by this year-end. The
CM directed officials to form a
committee in this regard. This
committee will have officials of
labour department, trade unions,
garment workers and factory
owner’s representatives. It was
also instructed that the committee

wage but withdrew the same

Tamil Nadu: State Govt. announces
Rs. 2 cr. for International Textile Fair
Another trade show is going to
take place, and this time Tamil
Nadu Government has come
forward to support the industry.

Legislative Assembly that the
Government would extend support
of Rs. 2 crore to the organisers for
organizing the International Textile
Fair at Coimbatore. Though more
details about the fair is awaited,
trade bodies have welcomed the
decision. Raja M Shanmugham,
President, TEA said that the
international textile fair would
largely help for the promotion of
industry, including exports. The
textile industry in Tamil Nadu is
exporting about Rs. 45,000 crore
worth of products annually and this
fair will help in increasing exports,
further. It is worth mentioning that
despite being one of the major
hubs from yarn to finished product,
Coimbatore so far does not have
any established international
trade show.
