TÜV Rheinland supports Bangladesh to be free from hazardous chemicals in the Textile Industry Prasad Pant (R), South Asia Director of The ZDHC Foundation in deep conversation with Mohammad Syful Islam Khan (L), MD, TÜV Rheinland Bangladesh As a company that takes its commitment to sustainable efforts seriously, TÜV Rheinland is the latest company to join hands with ZDHC to provide support for ZDHC MRSL Accepted Certification Standard for Level 1 Testing. While wastewater and sludge testing services are being provided by nearly all service providers, TÜV Rheinland is the only service provider to offer this support in Bangladesh, making it one of the prominent contributors to ZDHC. The aim is to make the apparel and footwear supply chain sustainable through the collaborative efforts of Bangladeshi manufacturers and TÜV Rheinland. The guiding principle for TÜV Rheinland is to achieve sustainable development of safety and quality in order to meet the challenge arising from the interaction among humans, technology and the environment, symbolised by the points of its triangular logo. In its pursuit to achieve a sustainable supply chain in Bangladesh, TÜV Rheinland will be regularly organising awareness seminars, workshops and training programmes for industry experts to interact with its own team of experts, to understand how ZDHC can place their companies onto the path of sustainable growth. As a part of these series, TÜV Rheinland recently organised its first event with ZDHC in Dhaka, which was well attended by the industry. Besides the TÜV Rheinland Bangladesh team, Prasad Pant, South Asia Director of The ZDHC Foundation was present to explain the significance of ZDHC and answer queries raised by the industry. The ZDHC Foundation oversees implementation of the ZDHC Programme worldwide. The ZDHC Programme includes a collaboration of 24 signatory brands, 59 value chain affiliates and 15 associates. Together, these contributors are working to support implementation of safer chemical management practices. TÜV Rheinland is proud to be one of these contributors and is confident that the importance of ZDHC will increase in the coming days, as greater awareness is created on the implementation of sustainable chemistry and best practices in the textile, leather and footwear industries, to protect consumers, workers and the environment. Though ZDHC is not a mandatory requirement, global brands/retailers and other stakeholders of the textile value chain are focused on creating a sustainable supply chain for both environmental and economic aspects.
