< < NIFT plans 3D body scanners’ global tender for ‘India Size’ survey < < Lectra Fashion PLM 4.0 merges human and artificial intelligence I ndia’s premier design institute, National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), has been mandated by the Union Ministry of Textiles (MoT) to produce India’s very own size chart that will help the apparel industry to tailor its products as per Indian body types. The soon-to-be initiated survey will gather specimens of 25,000 people in six key cities, including New Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Kolkata and Shillong. Samples will be obtained from an equal number of males and females in the age group between 15 and 65 years notably. A scan of each individual will mine hundreds of measurements in a point cloud. Almost 120 varied anthropometric aspects like height, weight, waist-size, hip-size, bust-size, etc., will be considered. The project is expected to be completed in 2-3 years at a cost of roughly Rs. 30 crore. MoT has sanctioned Rs. 21 crore for financing the project, while the rest of the cost will be borne by NIFT itself. < < H&M in-house brand Arket tests L ectra announces the release of latest PLM solution, Lectra Fashion PLM 4.0. This enhanced version has several new features and tools that make it more readily connected and configurable, helping many fashion and apparel companies work in a smarter and agile way in an IT-friendly environment. The company has developed Lectra Easy Connect, a series of connectors that allow the solution to interface with other IT systems like ERP and CRM. The connectors assure data integrity by enabling a smooth and consistent flow of data between the internal and external supply chain actors. The software also has enhanced connection to the design process by consolidating Adobe Illustrator integration through a new plug-in. VeChain Technology H &M in-house brand Arket has confirmed conducting a small Proof of Concept (POC) through a pilot testing with VeChain for implementing blockchain technology to secure product data traceability in the value chain. The test was made on a wool beanie from the Autumn 2018 collection. Before buying the product, the shoppers can retrieve the information related to the product such as material used, artist ID, colour, supplier, origin and factory name to be assured about what their product is made of. The information can be retrieved by scanning the product NFC chip through the VeChain app in their mobile phones. It is worth noting here that the designers will benefit from the increased access to platform data such as bitmap, PDF files and photographs while continuing to work in their native surroundings. This solution provides access to the consistent data stored on the platform and gives freedom to work with the familiar creative tools so as to make the onboarding of the new designs an easy task. www.apparelresources.com | January 2019 | Apparel Online Bangladesh 59
