and bridal dresses tend to veer towards pastel
shades and different hues of red, designers are
also adding variants in cool blue or almond green
therefore, bringing the international colour market
into the traditional Indian. For example, you can
also see blue as an accent on hand-worked or
embellished clothes including zardozi lehengas,
kurtas and palazzos which are amongst the most
popular choices for a traditional affair.

INDIAN BLUES
India has had a mesmerising tryst with shades
of blue especially indigo. However, dark shades
of blue or black are not considered to be very
auspicious for Indian weddings. This hasn’t
stopped designers from unveiling deep-coloured
lehengas and ghagras across the country thus
proving that India is ready for international colours

SHADES OF THE BIG FAT INDIAN
WEDDING
Big Fat Indian weddings are known not just for
their grandeur in terms of decor but also because
of their high-spirited colours, gorgeous designs,
and the perfect balance found in-between drama
and subtlety in every outfit. Every season sees the
advent of a fresh wave of colours and trends. But
the wedding and festival markets have proved to
be major players in the Indian apparel segment.
The last decade has witnessed the emergence of
a high-spending, high profile market that typically
blossoms between September and March with
people hoping to buy fresh (colour) and dazzling
(style) outfits for every ceremony. This has lead
to designers gleaning knowledge of what can
be expected in the next season by forecasting
wedding and colour trends, consequently helping
them experiment with traditional wedding attires.
The Maharani Diaries, a premium South
Asian wedding guide has come out with a very
interesting forecast for weddings— “Less is
no more. Minimal could be a buzzword, but it
definitely isn't for everyone. 2020 is in favour of
the maximalists. This season surely promises
more of more. Think fancy feathers, tiers, layers,
ruffles, sparkle, and bustle. The designers are
listening and we are so happy to see them return
to the runways.”
