Section 4
The East Patrol District led efforts for Operation Safety Net that was a citywide operation to target gang members, drugs, and guns through a violent crime reduction task force. Officers patrolled geographic areas where violent crime was most prevalent to reduce the number of offenses. There were several success stories and a number of offenders taken off the street.
Impaired driving continued to be a major focus for the district. There are a number of bars that sell alcohol. Officers meet quarterly with bar management and owners to encourage best practices, alcohol consumption monitoring of patrons, and the legalities associated with over serving customers. Patrol officers conducted several bar checks which include walking the premises of alcohol establishments to ensure compliance with laws and make sure that citizens are not overly intoxicated and have a safe ride home. Throughout the entire city, officers conducted 594 bar checks. This is the fifth consecutive year that the quarterly bar meetings have been conducted.
The East District held several citizen engagement opportunities throughout the year. Officers
engaged with kids and parents at the Greater Community Missionary Baptist Church Fall Festival. Officers participated in after-school tutoring programs that enhance relationships and build trust with teens.
