PPatrol- North District
• The North District expanded youth initiatives by adding a job fair and skills training to“ The Rec” after-school program.
• Coach 5-0 participation with officers expanded to 18 officers mentoring student athletes.
• The district worked two significant cases resulting in federal charges and making a huge impact in the North Texas region.
The patrol division is the department’ s largest division of personnel. The City of Arlington is divided into four geographic districts. Officers are assigned to beats to prevent crime, proactively address traffic concerns, and solve community problems. In the North District, an estimated 6.8 million visitors are drawn to the Entertainment District annually. These crowd fluctuations on event days can swell the city’ s population and it’ s up to the North District to provide excellent services to the businesses and residents in and around the Entertainment District.
The Rec, as it’ s called, continued with great results last year. Lamar High School students are provided an opportunity to hang out at North Davis Church of Christ twice a week after school to hone their athletic abilities, catch up on homework, or just enjoy time with mentors and friends while eating a healthy snack. The partnership between community, educators, and the church reinforced a positive lifestyle for kids. Lt. Thedrick Andres put on several job skills workshops for teens which resulted in 60 job offers for adolescents to obtain employment.
Coach 5-0 is a huge endeavor in the North District, cataloging the most officer participation in the city. Officers traveled with the Lamar High School Vikings football team to the home and away games. Mentors reported a banner year with positive relationship building between officers and teens. North Criminal Investigations Division was assigned a case where a gun store was burglarized and 39 guns were stolen. Through a couple of search warrants and assistance from
Garland Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms, 24 guns were recovered and seven arrests were made. In another major crime ring involving 15 burglaries of pharmacies throughout Arlington, detectives were able to secure federal sentences on 7 people associated with the offenses based upon intelligence sharing with multiple agencies.
