• October 2016 – The department received the 2016 Anthony L. Sutin Civic Imagination Award for the work completed by the Mentoring Arlington Youth( MAY) program. The MAY program is a youth investment program that pairs mentors with at-risk junior high students. Participants go through a multi-month program that focuses on life skills and positive decision-making.
• October 2016 – The Center for Problem-Oriented Policing named APD as a finalist for the 2016 Herman Goldstein Award for Excellence in Problem-Oriented Policing for the department’ s commitment to the Walmart Restorative Justice program. In a cooperative effort with Walmart Corporation, the Restorative Justice program was developed to use alternative methods to reduce shoplifting and other calls for service.
• October 2016 – National Night Out- The National Association of Town Watch ranked Arlington second in the national comparison of cities with populations greater than 300,000 people.
• The Dallas Cowboys honored all First Responders during an appreciation game that featured over 600 police and fire professionals on the field during a commemorative halftime ceremony. Fans were on their feet and showed their gratitude for public safety as America’ s team honored law enforcement and fire departments.
