Department Recognition
• August 2016 – The Arlington Police Department was one of 15 law enforcement agencies in the U. S. selected to serve as a model agency in Advancing 21 st Century Policing Initiative. At a ceremony at the White House, APD was recognized for the department’ s best practices and forwardthinking approaches to building community trust. Police Chief Will Johnson, Arlington Mayor Jeff Williams, Lt. Tarrick McGuire, and City Manager Trey Yelverton were on hand to represent the City of Arlington.
• October 2016 – The International Association of Chiefs of Police presented APD with the Michael Shanahan Award for Excellence in Public / Private Cooperation for work related to youth mentoring programs. The award specifically mentioned the Mentoring Arlington Youth( MAY) program and honored mentors and Wally Hardin, owner of The Man’ s Shop in Arlington.
• The COPS Office selected Arlington Police Department as the winner of the photo caption contest that featured Corporal Damien Gary assisting a young teen with tying his first necktie. Corporal Gary serves as mentor in the Mentoring Arlington Youth program.
• October 2016 – APD was selected as the winner for the 2016 Texas Municipal League – Excellence Award for the department’ s work with Project RAISE. Project RAISE( Risk Assessment Intervention Safety Engagement) consists of a multi-disciplinary team of social service agencies partnering with criminal justice organizations to provide assistance for family violence victims.
