Course for Grooms in Tucumán

Between May 29 and June 2, Tucumán hosted the traditional Course for Grooms that the AACCP has been giving in Buenos Aires for the last 10 years, and which was held at the Tucumán Rural Association headquarters and at the Cortaderas Country Club. The added value was having Dr. Eduardo Beccar Varela, who gave a conference for interested parties on“ Advice on how to breed competitive horses” at the different stages, and which ended up with a class on food management for those attending.
This time the course was held under the direction of Dr. Guillermo Buchanan, with the support of Dr. Santiago Camiña and Grad. Agustín Perego. With a very good level of attendance and organization, the course was held for the first time in the Province of Tucumán, thus extending the training plan which for years the AACCP has been working on and carrying out. The Training Course for Grooms has Theory and Practice lessons on horse and barn care and management and all the activities involved in that. The course benefitted from the cooperation of the Tucumán Rural Association Athenaeum, under the leadership of Miss Milagros Güiraldes. Engineer Federico Pasquini contributed everything related to logistics and providing his horses and the headquarters of the Cortaderas Country Club for practice.
Federico Pasquini gave us his impressions regarding the course:
“ The academic and practical level truly drew my attention. Speakers Bill, Santiago and Agustín managed to put across clinical and biomechanical concepts regarding the horse in a simple way, and using universal language. They give grooms very clear instructions on how to take decisions both in management and also care of the polo pony. Many of these concepts avoid future veterinary problems.
The talk on Nutrition by Eduardo Beccar Varela merits our special gratitude. It was a luxury to share in his vast experience; he showed us comparative results gathered over a lifetime devoted to nutrition, with very clear concepts. It was a great help to us that he should refresh our memories as to nutritional needs according to age and how to achieve good results with the pastures we produce in our region( Subtropical). The talk was very enriching.
The interesting thing is how results become apparent so soon with the grooms that participated. One would think it was oriented only to new grooms, but I believe it is very complete and educational; it helps think of the basics as precedent before taking on a new employee.
For this reason I recommend that you train your staff. I have only words of thanks for the AACCP that made it possible for us to get the unconditional support of Santiago Ballester, who gave us his approval to carry this out from the very first day we requested it.
