SWOT analysis for Equine Welfare
STRENGTHS OPPORTUNITY
- Ample space for extensive breeding,
excellence in farmland and pastures. - Respect and good treatment of the horse
achieves better results.
- Quality and quantity of food. - Rational break-in; Intelligent Break-in;
Indian Break-in; Join Up; American break-
in, are all systems that teach the horse with
non-violent methods.
- These advantages are the cause of
absence of discomfort and freedom to
express their specific behaviors.
- The stage is set to meet the necessary
requirements that an optimal model of
Animal Welfare (AW) proposes.
- Trust; selection and respect, complying
with natural behaviors.
- With AW working hours are optimized
and the impact on Productivity, Sport and
Commerce is positive.
- Achieving a position of world leadership
in regard to our Polo Argentino horses,
and certifying this respect according to
International standards.
WEAKNESSES THREATS
- Common misconceptions and lack
of culture, knowledge and training of staff
working with the horses as regards Animal
Welfare practices. - There is nothing significant that may
pose a threat, since installing and
administering a plan of animal welfare
does not require much capital in our
environment.
- Breeders’ and/or players’ resistance
to change, more so with reduced
resources or ability.
- Scarce or no knowledge of the real needs
of the species, which with simple and
economic changes could improve their
potential enormously.

- We have inexpensive professionals
investigating this issue, and another lot
working to develop and improve it.
I believe the tools to be available,
all we have to do is create incentives and
follow up in their use and implementation.
