ADOLFO CAMBIASO “Now I can sleep soundly” After the prize-giving, La Dolfina’s N°1 expressed his joy at having received both horse-blankets for Cuartetera’s clone B09. “It is another of the things that make me happy on this special day, and because I can now go off to sleep soundly. This goes for many of those who said that clones would not work”. And he added: “I played the mare in the second chukka and again in the seventh, and fortunately we were able to make a good difference in two key plays; the mare responded wonderfully”. The AACCP statute establishes, in its Article 2, Section H, the following: “Promote the investigation and practice of artificial insemination; embryo transplant and any other improvement technique.” A clone is the result of a reproduction technique; the AACCP only registers clones resulting from horses that are registered in our breed. If the breeder achieves better results or more efficiency with this method of reproduction, that is the business of each bloodstock. The clone has become reality; it has taken us several years, as an Association, to achieve a standard that allows us to identify them and keep a register that is compatible with the SRA. The AACCP only registers horses that meet the requirements that enable them to belong to the PA breed; clones are included in this requirement; they are, in fact, an exact replica of a PA DNA. The limitations as to what horses may play polo are established by the AAP; our Association in no way interferes in this sense, as to what horse may or may not enter a polo field. As an Association, we will always promote the breeding of the best horse; the breed has grown enormously since it was founded, and results have been very good on the polo field. Nowadays 90% of horses playing the Argentine Open, which is where the best polo in the world is played, are PA ponies. 219
