For a full costume, including pattern-making all the pieces, cutting, assembly and embellishment, it can take anywhere from a couple of weeks to a month or two.
If I were able to work steadily perhaps it would only take a week or so, but unfortunately life usually gets in the way! It also depends on the complexity of the costume.
For example, the white underpinnings costume I made involved many pieces, drafting a corset as well as creating a cage crinoline, and hand beading. So it took quite a while to complete! In contrast, my 18th century gown for Bastille Day took less than two weeks, so it really depends on time constraints. (And how much I procrastinate!)
ASGJ: How long does it take to make a costume?
LL: It really depends on the deadline! Sometimes in this industry you might have to have a lot done in not a lot of time, so entire costumes may have to come together overnight.
