LL: I’ve been a big fan of Steam Powered Giraffe for a while now, and naturally as a costumer, my form of fan art tends to be the wearable kind. I cosplayed as the robot Rabbit for Supanova 2014, which was a very involved costume with lights, prosthetics and lots of makeup! I also designed the artwork for, and printed some leggings which took inspiration from the robotic characters. I was actually contacted by members of the band to tell me how much they liked the designs, so that was really gratifying!

ASGJ: Speaking of Design, you are currently in Sydney improving your mind by studying Design, has this come about from your love of costumes?

LL: I started sewing in high school when I took a sewing class, and found out about cosplay at a similar time.

From there I taught myself how to sew and make patterns, and found I had a bit of a knack for it. I pursued design and sewing throughout my highschool years, and when I graduated, came to Sydney to study Fashion Design and Technology.

I completed my qualification there, and gained a really solid technical knowledge of garment construction and design. From there, I decided I wanted to be more creatively inclined, and applied to study Theatrical Costume, which I’ve just completed my first year of.
