You may have seen her in Deerstalker Videos of “the Secret life of the Lolita”. You may have seen her Tea Duelling at a mad hatters party or dancing with the green fairy at the Absinthe Salon, but if you have ever

seen her costumes, you could never miss LADY LAURABELL.

Known for her stunning design and construction skills, Lady Laurabell has been a regular in the Goth, Lolita and Steampunk scenes in Sydney since she arrived here a few years ago. The Antipodean SteamGuild Journal spoke to Lady Laurabell to discuss her inspirations, fashions and life as a lady of fine tastes in a Neo-Victorian World.

ASGJ: Lets start at the beginning, how did you find steampunk?

LL: I first encountered steampunk at conventions in Sydney when I was beginning as a cosplayer, at age 15. I passed people dressed in the style in the halls, and made the connection with things I had seen in the media, films and artwork. It wasn’t until I started listening to the music of bands like Steam Powered Giraffe & Abney Park that the style really grabbed a hold of me. I really enjoy the combination of historically accurate costume with wonderful inventions. As a long-time fan of classic literature & science-fiction, as well as fantasy, the style really appealed to me.

ASGJ: You mentioned Steam Powered Giraffe, you have been known to sing along with their albums at tea duels, but I hear they are also a fan of your work.
