EVENT HIGHLIGHTS Professor Andrew Walker, President and Pro Vice-Chancellor of Monash University Malaysia, and Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah, Director General of Health, exchange the signed agreement SEACO partners with the Ministry of Health The Southeast Asia Community Observatory (SEACO) signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Ministry of Health, sealing a partnership that has produced invaluable insights into population health and well-being in Malaysia since 2011. This agreement will allow leading public health professionals to be appointed as SEACO Scientific Advisory Group members and support future collaborations at district, state and national levels. Advancing work, health and well-being in Malaysia The Newton Researcher Links Workshop on ‘Advancing work, health and well-being in rural and urban Malaysia’ brought together around 40 academics from the UK and Malaysia. The gathering served as a platform to generate new ideas that will support policymakers, healthcare providers and non-governmental organisations in bettering the current situation and closing the gap between urban and rural communities in both social welfare and economic development. This initiative was funded by the Newton-Ungku Omar Fund, a collaboration program between the UK and Malaysian governments. 27 BRIMS Technical Workshop Series: Molecular Histology and Imaging Histology and bioimaging relates to methods that non-invasively visualise biological processes in real time, and that interfere as little as possible with life processes. In this workshop, Brain Research Institute Monash Sunway (BRIMS) used lectures and hands-on sessions to introduce several basic techniques and skills in molecular histology and advanced bioimaging, in particular fluorescence, confocal and multiphoton imaging. Participants were trained at the bioimaging facilities at BRIMS in microscopy techniques.
