PROJECT HIGHLIGHTS

ARTIST-IN-RESIDENCE 10 YEAR ANNIVERSARY
In 2014, Mount Auburn became the first cemetery in the United States to establish and artist residency program. In the past ten years, we have worked with nearly 30 artists across different disciplines including film, music, theater, dance, sculpture, photography, painting, poetry, and more.
In April 2025, more than 20 former Artists-in- Residence came together for the 10th Anniversary AiR Celebration event at Story Chapel. The event highlighted storytelling, poetry, dance, music and visual art with live performances and an art gallery.

SOLSTICE: REFLECTIONS ON WINTER LIGHT
SOLSTICE returned in December 2024, seeing its largest audience yet with over 16,000 attendees over 11 nights. With all new artworks illuminating Bigelow Chapel’ s facade, a new location for the Eclipse, an extended Lantern Walk, and the debut of the interactive In Stillness exhibit in Hazel Dell, visitors were invited for another year of contemplative winter reflection. This year’ s SOLSTICE run also received extensive coverage in the press, including the Boston Globe and WBUR.
