Annual Report FY 2025 | Page 15

The 2025 fiscal year was, in many ways, a landmark year for Mount Auburn Cemetery and the Friends of Mount Auburn in terms of philanthropy – particularly in regards to special projects and restricted funding. In October of 2024, we were thrilled to be issued a challenge grant from an anonymous foundation in the amount of $ 435,000: $ 260,000 for the restoration of the iron fence at the Scots’ Charitable Society lot on the corner of Fir and Walnut Avenues, and the construction of the new Grove Street pedestrian entrances at the corner of Grove Street and Coolidge Avenue, in the Cemetery’ s southwestern corner. We were also fortunate to receive a $ 300,000 gift towards our Digital Business Transformation initiative, which includes the digitization of our historic archives. Our membership numbers continued a slow, but steady, climb – until rising dramatically in the fall as a result of a push to convert SOLSTICE attendees into new members. On one day in September 3, 2024, we saw our member count increase by 5 % which resulted in us reaching 2,000 active members for the first time in the program’ s history.
