COMMUNICATIONS AND MARKETING
Improved Communications
Enhanced and more regular communications with members has enabled us to increase the levels of engagement in
the community. Both face to face and online based communications have intentionally increased in 2012/13.
The increases of conceptual and quality content on our web, and the introduction of the new e-newsletter have
made basketball news more accessible to the basketball community. Although improvements are still to be made,
the regular communication and promotion of the basketballscotland major programmes and events at regional,
national and international level have allowed us to reach more people directly on a more regular basis.

Social Media Presence and Engagement
At basketballscotland we have continued to develop our social media presence. Social media has become one of the
main marketing tools to engage and interact with members and the general basketball fan base, vital for two-way
communication with the community. Social media has proven to be key in the long term for revenue purposes, and
basketballscotland need to continue working towards this end goal
Communication and promotional efforts and the introduction of monitoring and evaluation practices have had a
positive impact on our community growth and engagement. The introduction of concessive events marketing plans
for the main national and international events has had a clear impact on basketballscotland’s presence on social
media and media outlets.
Our Facebook
community has increased by 20% since the start
of the 2012/2013 season. The peak of reach in Facebook was 9th June
2013, aligned with the International Summer Slam
tournament held in
Edinburgh. 8502 people saw our page, and the level of engagement had a
peak with 374 ‘ likes’ among our social media communications.
@basketballscot on twitter has reached 1534 followers which
represents a 40% increase since January 2012. Twitter levels of interaction
rose significantly through our main events where we chose twitter as the
platform for live events. Video content and Youtube are still the tools to
maximise.
