basketballscotland Annual Report
West Region
During the 2012-2013 season basketball in the West of Scotland grew at an incredible rate, with many new initiatives
starting.
New developments included the introduction of Scotland’s first School of Basketball in Ardrossan,
North Ayrshire; the SSS Colleges/Universities Competition and also the U10 Regional
Development League, to name but a few. These new programmes combined to ensure that gaps
in the West Basketball Pathway were filled, which allowed more players across various age
groups the opportunity to compete in a competitive basketball environment.
Clubs within the region have also created new programmes at a local level, ensuring that the number of players
competing within Grass Roots basketball (RDLs, School Competition etc) continues to increase.
West Regional Development League (RDL) 2012-2013
The RDL Competitions during the 2012-2013 season were hosted at the Lagoon Leisure Centre, Renfrewshire on five
days throughout the season. Each day was extremely competitive with all teams focusing on winning the West RDL
Title and qualifying for the National Challenge (U14 Only).
The number of teams once again increased from the previous year with many clubs entering all competitions. All
winners and entry statistics can be found below. This season it is a priority to ensure that there is an U14 Girls RDL
Competition running. With only one team entry in the 2012-2013 season, the St Mirren U14 Girls team had to
compete in the U14 Boys RDL.
