Coaches/Officials/Volunteer Development
Nineteen candidates passed the UKCC Level 1 course and now work with their respective clubs and Council Sports
Development programmes. All candidates also completed a sportscotland CPD programme which included Positive
Coaching Scotland (PCS), First Aid and Child Protection training. Bruce Todd of Kirrie Musketeers passed his UKCC
Level 2 and will go on to Coach Tayside Musketeers Cadet women in Division 2 next season. The basketballscotland
Regional Development Officer (RDO) worked with recently qualified coaches in Primary sessions organised by Councils in the region. These same coaches were also supported at Club sessions where they worked with young players.
Twelve Level 1 and nine Level 2 Table Officials qualified this season and are now officiating games at University,
National and Local league. A Getting Started Refereeing Course in conjunction with RDL Competitions was a real
success and produced 11 passes.
There was also a “Reffin’ Brilliant” weekend in October 2012 which had 10 participants. These
candidates went on to officiate in Regional Development Leagues and Schools Festivals
throughout the season, and will enhance the quality of officiating in the 2013-14 season with the
experience they have gained.
Support was given to HNC students on College courses who were working with primaries on their placement, and
with club coaches on a volunteer basis to gain more experience. This was an invaluable group who could be club
volunteers, officials and coaches of the future.
