basketballscotland Annual Report
Grampian Region
Many clubs continued to grow over the course of the 2012/2013 season with a direct correlation between the
competition structures offered and the number of teams that each club contained.
This year saw outstanding work being done by both Beacon Basketball and Elgin Eagles as part of
the basketballscotland Future clubz programme. The programme, and support from
basketballscotland’s Club Development Officer, allowed both clubs to develop a programme of
coach development and school delivery to increase their numbers. Elgin were also able to
participate in the Under 12 & 14 North of Scotland Leagues and gain their first experience of local
club competition.
Grampian Regional Development League (RDL) 2012-2013
For youth competition basketballscotland ran central venue regional development leagues at U10, 12, 14, 16 and 18
age groups.
The U10, U16 and U18 events were Grampian regional events, while the U12 and U14 events were North of Scotland
events incorporating teams from Grampian and Highland areas. For this season the Under 12 girls section ran for the
first time ever and was a great success.
The decision to run U12 and 14 sections as a North of Scotland league also proved very successful with more teams
playing than ever before and an increase in the quality of play.
