ScotlandAs1 - MakeItHappen East & Central Regional Development League (RDL) 2012-2013 This year there were competitions for males & females and for all age groups from U12 to U16 years. Within the competitions, 43 teams entered with a total of 456 players taking part. The winners of each competition were: U12 Girls – East Lothian Peregrines U12 Boys – Stirling Knights U14 Girls – West Lothian Wolves U14 Boys – Falkirk Fury U16 Girls – Falkirk Fury U16 Boys – Stirling Knights These RDLs were successful with players able to gain playing experience in a competitive but friendly environment Schools Competition 2012-2013 During the season there were several regional primary/secondary basketball events. Over 10 primary school tournaments or festivals took place within the region and over 6 high school tournaments/festivals. Most of these had more than 1 day of competition each. Within the tournaments/festivals the participant numbers were over 1000. Coach/Officials/Volunteer Development The development of both categories this year has been focussed on supporting the competitions which ran within the region. We have seen a huge growth in officials and coaches now volunteering their time in the Regional Development Leagues. This helps with the sustainability of the RDLs and also provides and opportunity for the officials and coaches to gain experience in a development focussed environment. The “Reffin’ Brilliant” course run in partnership with Scottish Student Sport also helped develop some new officials who have officiated in the RDLs.
