Event Events are exciting days for Girl Scouts. Through events, girls try new things, see new places and meet new friends while making memories that will last a lifetime! Many events allow girls to bring their families so everyone can join in on the fun! In 2012-2013, sports events connected girls with inspiring student athletes at several locations throughout the council. The University of Pittsburgh, Mercyhurst University and Allegheny College all offered the chance for girls to get to know their women’s basketball players and watch them in action during a game. Girls who attended the event at Mercyhurst University tried a variety of sports with women from the rowing, softball, soccer and lacrosse teams before watching the women’s basketball game. Other events that marked this Girl Scout year included: • Girl Scout Day at PNC Park — Girl Scouts and their families cheered on the Pittsburgh Pirates. Each Girl Scout received a commemorative patch, met some of the players and took home an autographed baseball. • 27th Annual Kennywood Day — With their friends and family, girls enjoyed a day of thrills and spills on the park’s rides, participated in sing-a-longs, played trivia games, exchanged SWAPs and starred in a parade! • Girl Scout Day at Jerry Uht Park — Girl Scouts and their families enjoyed an evening of exciting Erie SeaWolves baseball. Entertainment, an All-YouCan-Eat buffet and a SeaWolves hat were included. Girl Scouts also had the option of camping overnight in the outfield! • Camp Creepy at Camps Conshatawba and Redwing — This popular Halloween event is always well-attended by Girl Scouts and their families. Girls don their Halloween costumes and explore camp on a haunted hike, visit the mad scientist’s lab for spooky experiments, make s’mores and listen to campfire stories. Whether girls learned how to hit the three-pointer or got to ride their favorite roller coaster three times in a row, Girl Scout events allowed girls to have fun and try new things while making new friends—and lots of memories! 27th Annual Kennywood Day Girl Scout Day at PNC Park Camp Creepy 8 girl scouts western pennsylvania 2012-2013 annual report 8
