College Board was present once a week to give specialized attention to those students applying
for financial aid and to assist them with the application process.
Perry Wayne and Joanna Hitchcock Scholarship: A Carlos Rosario faculty member awarded
two scholarships in honor of her parents, Perry Wayne and Joanna Hitchcock. Worede Tesfay
($1,750.00) and Evanna Reynoso ($250.00) were presented the awards at the school’s
Recognition Ceremony in June.
St. James Suites Scholarship: This school year, two local business owners, Jay Haddock Ortiz
and Hector Torres, awarded two Carlos Rosario students with a one-time scholarship of $250.00.
Lea Zepeda and Maria Quintero were presented with their awards at the school’s Recognition
Ceremony.
College/Vocational Fair: A college/vocational fair, which has become an annual event, was
held for students interested in obtaining information from local colleges and vocational programs.
The following programs participated in the fair:
Northern Virginia Community College,
Montgomery College, the University of the
District of Columbia, ACT College, EXCEL
Institute, and SOME Center for Employment
Training.
Self Defense Classes: A total of three classes
were conducted by a DC Rape Crisis Center
representative. Students were given safety tips
and were taught self-defense positions and moves.

Extracurricular Activities: The list of activities
offered to the student body continues to grow.
The following is a highlight of extracurricular
activities offered to students during the 2006-2007 school year: art, chess, computer club,
conversation, dance, dominoes, ESL homework help, exercise, figure drawing, hiking club, an
international women’s lunch, karaoke, keyboarding, knitting club, piano lessons, pronunciation,
reading practice, Spanish conversation for beginners, trips, and yoga.
Legal Clinic: During the academic year, the DC Bar held free legal clinics on September 16th,
December 2nd, March 3rd, and June 2nd. The clinics were open to the Carlos Rosario student body
and to the community at large. At each clinic large groups of lawyers and supportive staff
volunteered their time to counsel students and community members with regard to legal matters.
Hearing/Vision Screenings: This year, the Lion’s Club of
Maryland performed vision and hearing screenings for one
week during the month of May. A total of 224 students had
their hearing screened and 250 had their vision screened.
Those with less than average results were referred to the
proper specialists. The school looks forward to increasing
the number of students screened each school year.
