BRINGING INTO FOCUS FILIPINO PRESENCE IN AUSTRALIA www.kalatas.com.au | Volume 5 Number 11 | AUGUST 2015 WHAT’S ON 05 Radio Tagumpay Inspires Fundraising Concert THE newest Filipino-Australian community radio show in Sydney, Radio Tagumpay, will stage a fundraising concert on August 15 Asquith Leagues Club from 7pm. Organised in conjunction with Triple H community radio station, the concert aims to raise funds for the improvement of the station’s facilities. It will also earmark funds to go to Grameen Australia for micro-finance projects in the Philippines. The concert “Inspire – a multi talented music extravaganza” draws from the radio show’s name and philosophy. Tagumpay is Filipino for ‘success’. Filipino-Australian artists performing at the concert are: Bob Alipalo, Fasika Ayallew, Tina Bangel & One Voice Kids, Andrew Mark Baris, Marianne Cuasay, Angela Ford, Issei Guarin, Criz Guce, Jasmine Henry, Brian Lorenz, Jinky Marsh, Bernie Van Tiel, Danikka & Daniela Vassallo, Elysa Villareal and June ‘Miss Little Stars’ and Trinity Young. The concert also aims to launch and cement the radio show’s presence in the immediate Hornsby-Ku-ringgai area. Druitt 25th of Aguman Capampangan YOUNGSTERS take center stage in a unique show on August 15 in the ‘Pinoy Radio’ fundraising event on August 15 at the Club Pabico in Mt. Druitt. ‘Miss Little Stars Exclusive’ is a show featuring girls, age 5 to 12, in an entertainment programme complete with a parade in their casual and formal wear. There will be a special segment featuring mums and their daughters in their best dresses. Event will be from 6pm to 11pm. It promises a night of fun and entertainment. THE Aguman Capampangan Australia will celebrate its 25th Anniversary on August 29 in a fun-filled event featuring special guest actor Joey Marquez and the best of Capampangan entertainers. The Sinukwan Festival of the Capampangans will be held at the Fairfield RSL Club (14 Anzac Street, Fairfield) from 6.30 pm. The event promises an evening of fun with a showcase of Pampanga culture. IN OBSERVANCE of ‘Buwan ng Wika’, the Tagalog Association of Australia will host its annual ‘Balagtasan’ on August 29 at Club Pabico in Mt. Druitt. ‘Balagtasan’ teams will demonstrate their wit, rhetoric and eloquence in Tagalog in a themed debate. The event also features speakers and a song presentation by the Sydney Sonata Singers. ‘Buwan ng Wika’ is observed every August in the Philippines and by Filipino communities around the world. The Balagtasan is a traditional Filipino oratorical demonstration of literary and poetic verses named after Francisco Balagtas (Francisco Baltazar, 1788-1862) considered as the greatest Filipino poet and author of the epic ‘Florante at Laura’. The Tagalog Association of Australia has been conducting the Balagtasan in recent years to celebrate the ‘Buwan ng Wika’. The event will be held from 12.305.30pm.
