Epping Boys High in recent
weeks have prompted Government action.
Our schools, our police and
other authorities are operating in
a new and different world, as far
as risks to our young people are
concerned and these new risks
mean that we have to be vigilant
and take action as necessary.
This year’s State Budget set
aside $4 million to develop an

their obligation to report any information about suspicious or

Police and the Department

that’s why it’s so important that
we explore the safest and most
effective ways we can deliver compassionate care and improve the quality of life for
those suffering from a terminal
illness.
Finally, the prestigious

risk of becoming disengaged
from society and lured in by the
recruitment tactics of extremists. I have always said that any
program developed by the Government must have the support
of the community and groups
at the coal face of this problem
and I can report we have started
working with community leaders on this issue.
However, the recent events
at Epping Boys High required
immediate action so I made
the decision to conduct a statewide audit of all prayer groups
taking place in public schools.
The NSW Police Force will
also be providing a counter-ter-
to a very small number of incidents in the past year, but I
would like to assure the community there is no current threat
to the safety of our students.
In other news, NSW continues to position itself as a world
leader in cannabis research and
I have announced we will lead
Australia’s first medical cannabis trial for adults who are terminally ill. The first part of the
trial will be conducted at the
Calvary Mater Newcastle Hospital with about 30 patients to
begin treatment in early 2016,
and initial results expected by
the end of 2016.
We don’t want patients
prise together to look at ways to
encourage more trade across the
Asia Pacific region.
I had the pleasure of addressing about 300 delegates attending the conference where I
stressed that the NSW Government was open and ready to do
business with Asia.
Almost one in every five
Australian jobs are linked to international trade and this state’s
trade with Asia has more than
doubled over the past decade so
it’s imperative this Government
does everything it can to use our
long-standing diplomatic and
cultural links with Asia to our
advantage.

Create your myGov account
myGov is now the best destination to complete
your government business, including your tax return,
especially if you don’t have a tax agent or accountant.
Now we’ve ticked over into the new financial
year, it’s a great time to get organised and lodge your
tax return online via myGov - particularly for people
receiving Family Assistance payments.
There are a lot of good reasons to lodge your tax
return as soon as possible.
The sooner you lodge your tax return, the sooner you can receive your full Family Tax Benefit entitlement, including the Family Tax Benefit Part A Supplement of up to $726.35 per child.
So what’s the best way for you to do your tax return? The answer is simple – myTax, the quick, smart
way to lodge online through myGov.
There are now more than 7 million active myGov
accounts and more than 2.8 million tax lodgements
were completed using the service last financial year.
If you haven’t already signed up for myGov, now
is a fantastic time to get started.
To create a myGov account, go to my.gov.au.
Once you have signed up, you can link your preferred
government services to your myGov account, including Centrelink Online Services and the Australian Taxation Office to lodge your tax return.
After you have lodged your tax return, the Australian Taxation Office will automatically send us your
details so we can balance your Family Assistance payments and send you any additional money you may
be owed. This means you only need to provide this information to the government once, saving you time.
If you do not need to lodge a tax return and you
currently receive Family Assistance payments, you will
need to notify the Department of Human Services by
30 June 2016. The good news is you can also do this
using your Centrelink online account through myGov.
For those currently receiving Family Assistance
payments, it’s also a great idea to take a look at the Express Plus Centrelink app.
The app is great for families and has a number
of really useful functions that can save you time and
allow you to do your business at your own convenience.
Using the app you can:
• view and update your family income estimate,
and use the income calculator,
• view your Child Care Benefit, Child Care Rebate
and child care attendance details,
• for new parents, lodge proof of birth documents straight from the maternity ward and even enrol your child with Medicare at the same time. Note:
To add a new born child using the app, you need to
make sure you submit a pre-claim to register your
child before your baby is born – which you can do up
to three months before the birth.
• see when Family Tax Benefit (FTB) payments are
balanced at the end of a financial year,
• tell Centrelink if you're not required to lodge a
tax return,
• lodge a claim for Child Care Benefit, and
• read ‘News for Families’.
