Justice
for Kian rally
MEMBERS of Migrante Australia
formed a rally in front of the
Philippine Consulate General front
gate on Wentworth Avenue in
Sydney’s CBD recently in protest
against the killing by local police
of 17-year-old high school student
Kian Loyd de los Santos on suspicion
of illegal drug possession.
Their placards called on Philippine President Rodrigo
Duterte to stop extra-judicial killings.
One sign called for suspension of Australia’s military aid to
the Philippines.
In a Reuters news report from Bangkok, Australian
journalist Lindsay Murdoch said the killing of Kian had
“sparked an outcry” from Catholic church leaders and
prompted powerful politicians allied to the President to set up
congressional inquiry into extra-judicial killings. n
