CALAMBA CITY, Laguna, – The
Calabarzon region got the biggest
portion of the 250 prisoner vans
that were turned over Wednesday
to jail facilities in 18 regions of the
Bureau of Jail Management and
Penology (BJMP).
BJMP Chief Jail Director
Deogracias Tapayan said of the
250 brand new service vehicles,
the bulk went to Region IV-A with
36 followed by Region III, 27,
National Capital Region, 26, and
Region VI, 21.
The vehicles were part of
the more than 300 BJMP transport
vehicles procured from the P299
million that President Rodrigo
Duterte allotted to the BJMP in
December 2017. Some 70 vehicles
were already awarded in July.
Tapayan said the delivery
of the remaining prisoner vans is “a
testament of the President’s sincere
desire to address the needs of his
people in the most expeditious and
efficient way possible.”
President Duterte flew to
Calamba City on Wednesday, Sept.
26 and turned over the remaining
transport vehicles to BJMP.
Tapayan said the grant
of transport vehicles is a means
to counter the ever-growing need
of ensuring the safe movement
of detainees and personnel
nationwide.

Esterlina

her appreciation to the city
government for recognizing her

“We thank the Quezon

detainees either in island or remote
provinces.
The BJMP still has to
acquire more than 800 units to
answer for the 1,232 vehicles that
various city and municipal jails
need across the country.
Aside from the transport
vehicles, the BJMP has already
received a total of P3.4 billion to
construct 107 jail buildings in the
18 regions nationwide to address
jail overcrowding.
“It was also under
(Duterte’s) administration that
the double increase in pay of all
uniformed personnel became
possible,” Tapayan said.
Meanwhile, the President
cited instances where uniformed
personnel were killed while in
transit.
He said: “I do not want
you dead. Every incident that
results to death of a uniformed
personnel means a family is broken
and shall suffer because of losing a
father.”
According to the BJMP,
the distribution of the service
vehicles to other regions are as
follows: Region 1 (12), Region
2 (9), Region 4B (8), Region 5
(13), Region 7 (15), Region 8

There are more than
90 centenarians living in
Quezon City who each receive
a 100,000 grant upon achieving
their enviable age, a 1,000-peso

as a birthday and Christmas
financial gifts from the city
government.
The recognition and
financial grant to centenarians
is
in

with
city’s
implementation of Republic
Act 10868, also known as the
Centenarian’s Act of 2016.
Prior
to
the
Centenarian’s Act of 2016, the
city has been recognizing its
