SKILL LEVEL: II - III (A basic familiarity with digital
editing tools is required.)
CONCEPT: Juxtapose video art with your own
imagination, as you transform still images as well as
original and appropriated footage into exciting, strange
moving-image compositions. Students can incorporate
performance and animation into their projects.
MEDIA & TECHNIQUES: Students work with
various techniques for shooting, digitizing, editing and
compositing video and sound recordings. We work with
Final Cut Pro and After Effects on Apple computers.
Although some equipment is available for check-out,
students may bring their own video camera, tripod and
any extras for constant access.
ACTIVITIES: We film within the scenic Colorado Rockies
and the lighting studio, learning post-production and
editing in the digital studio and critiquing works of video
art. We investigate various modes of expressive video,
including short form, single-channel and immersive
installations and discuss contemporary artwork that
utilizes these techniques.

CONCEPT: Using the iPhone, the world’s most popular
camera, learn how to convey your own personal
photographic vision of the world around you. The iPhone
is firmly recognized as a viable photographic tool for
both hobbyists and professional photographers. In this
hands-on workshop, you’ll discover its strengths and
weaknesses, while mastering hands-on techniques
that elevate photography from snapshots to thoughtful
and personal imagery. We practice solid composition
and image-making techniques and explore the camera
apps and editing tools most conducive to traditional
photography.
MEDIA & TECHNIQUES: Students use iPhone, iPad and
select camera and editing apps.
ACTIVITIES: Students participate in photography
excursions led by the instructor, daily assignments,
discussions and supervised image-editing sessions using
iPhones and iPads. Students have opportunities to have
prints made of select images.

author and technology journalist. He has exhibited his
work in galleries throughout the U.S. and currently writes

CONCEPT: Share your story through the art of narrative
photography. The iPhone camera is a remarkably effective
tool for creating a purposeful, cohesive body of work
that reflects your personal interests. In this hands-on
workshop, use the iPhone to explore the process of
narrative photography, and discover how a collection of
images can create a compelling story about the people,
places or themes that speak to you as a photographer.
Whether your passion is portraiture, landscape, still life or
street scenes, the success of any photography project lies
in identifying, planning and executing a strong thematic
vision. With a series of in-class exercises, photography
excursions and an overview of image-editing techniques,
you will leave this workshop with the ability to create
images that reveal a personal story.
MEDIA & TECHNIQUES: Students use iPhone 4S or
later running iOS 8, iPad 2 or later running iOS 8, Adobe
Lightroom and select camera and editing apps.
