CONCEPT: Sharpen your vision as a photographer and
enrich the context of your work by exploring the question,
“What gives a photograph meaning?” In this workshop,
students take a deeper look at the art of photography
and explore how photographs attain meaning and the
elements that supply them with the capacity to share a
story. Learn with daily critiques, lectures and hands-on
photography. Experimentation (and failure!) is encouraged
as a means of pushing past the familiar and finding new
ways of being expressive with our photographs. Each day
we focus on a specific photographic strategy and consider
how subject matter and form create meaning.
CONCEPT: Enhance your book with interactive elements
and reach your readers on a deeper level. iBooks Author
is a powerful page layout application that allows you to
integrate text, photos, slideshows, video, audio and even
quizzes into your books. Learn how to create your own
books in iBooks Author. Master the basics like adding
photos and video, flowing text around objects and inserting
new chapters, then learn how to customize layouts, use
master objects, add slideshows, quizzes and more. From
a textbook to a family album, whatever your project,
this workshop helps you make the most of design and
interactivity.
MEDIA & TECHNIQUES: Students use digital
photography and digital printmaking with Adobe
Lightroom and/or Adobe Photoshop.
MEDIA & TECHNIQUES: Students use digital photos or
art of their own creation. Basic Adobe Photoshop skills,
familiarity with Apple computers/iPads and a basic
understanding of Keynote is suggested. Students should
bring their own iPad and cables to class, along with
content for a final project.
CONCEPT: Discover your own distinct vision as an artist
and cultivate a cohesive body of work through the process
of fine-art digital printmaking. This is the perfect course
for advanced photographers interested in creating solid
portfolios to represent their core photographic visions. In
this workshop, you write your own artistic statement and
then see it brought to life through day trips to photography
sites around the Roaring Fork Valley. Investigate concepts
and strategies that will guide you to creating a body
of work that is powerful, well edited and sequenced.
As a collective, we advance our shooting and printing
skills while making technical choices that best suit our
individual style and photographic content.
ACTIVITIES: We engage in independent shooting, daily
one-on-one and group discussions, reviews, lectures and
studio time for editing, developing and printing images.
FACULTY: Christine Collins received her M.F.A. from
Massachusetts College of Art. She is an Assistant
Professor at Lesley University College of Art and Design
and has been a guest lecturer/critic at Harvard University

York City.
