Anatomy of the Human Heart May 2014 | Page 7

Sure, the Scientific Revolution brought too many changes in human life that influence everything after its time. The other period of time was the Industrial Revolution, the period of time in which machines started to make products easier and with less work. Railroads were created, urbanization started, people started to move to the cities to find job at the factories, but people’s work was easier, because machines did the hard work for them. If people’s work didn’t include moving, then the heart would not pump blood at the same rate as if you were exercising (moving) and eventually it will start to malfunction and this is what is called “heart failure”. So it can be said that the Industrial Revolution brought benefits, but these benefits brought its own damage to society. Then that damage led to new discoveries in medicine and the developing of new machines that helped cure people. At last, during this period there is not much information about how the heart was viewed, because it was more machine-centered.

Somewhere during the industrial revolution, starting in 1804, the Latin Americans wanted to be independent from Europe. Meanwhile in Europe they were fighting against Napoleon Bonaparte, and this fight decreased the Spaniards power in their colonies. One of them was New Spain nowadays known as Mexico. Struggle began to grow with Miguel Hidalgo when he gave the Grito de Dolores, and war for independence began in 1810. José María Morelos succeeded him, he used guerrilla tactics against the Spaniards and declared a new constitution in Chilpancingo. At last the war ended with the Treaty of Córdoba under the Plan de Iguala in 1821. Mexico was independent, but still it was a constitutional monarchy. This war lasted for 11 years and during that war, how did medicine was seen? Because it is obvious that in a war soldiers need medicine in order to keep fighting, but there were some diseases that interfere in war but, what type diseases were present in that time? How the diseases does affected Mexico? Was there a treatment? Questions will be answered... Please take in mind that finding information about the heart, during that time is too specific and there is not too much information, so it was made a research of general medicine in the time.
