All in all, a great day By Cadet T. Goodyear We arrived at the visitor’s car park at Cosford bright and early, we loaded into the minibus and headed off to RAF Shawbury. When we arrived, we met WO. Logue who briefed us on the day’s tasks. We were to assist the RAF in protecting the displayed aircraft from damage, assist the RAF Regiment on the paintball range and help to park cars. My group were first to park cars, we were driven by a member of staff to the car park area, where we had to park the cars in straight horizontal lines. We were on this task for approximately 40 minutes - we then had a break. We were allowed to look around the stands until our break was over where we were then tasked to guard the displayed aircraft. I was stood by the RAF Hawk MK2; this was good because I could see across the whole runway. We had lunch and then it was time for the aircraft displays. FS. Frost, Cpl. Hall & Sgt. Alder There were a lot of aircraft being shown, my favourite was the Chinook. As it flew past us, a man in the back popped out and waved at us. Finally, we had to pack up the stands and go into the minibus and headed home; all in all it was a great day! ? Happy to help By Cadet E. Jarvis On the 16th of November 2013, cadets from the squadron gave up their free time and travelled over to Sainsbury’s in Telford Forge Retail Park to help with bag packing. Although it was a long and tiring day, it was a very joyful experience. Cadets arrived at Sainsbury’s at 9am on a busy Saturday morning. Although they were aware a long day was ahead, the cadets still arrived with lifted spirits and smiles on their faces. We were split 2497cosfordsquadron.moonfruit.com into groups with an NCO in each and then the groups were split into pairs on each till. With a mixture of both Greens and Working Blues, we really showed off who we are and what we do as a squadron. The very charitable Sainsbury’s customers, kindly donated to the squadron - with a few even donating £5 notes! The total amount of money that was raised is £840.00 – after Gift Aid is added onto this amount, the amount raised will be over £1000.00! This money will generate a valuable contribution of money towards purchasing a new minibus for the squadron. Hopefully with go faster stripes! Despite bag packing for a long seven to eight hours, cadets still left happy. Knowing that they helped customers and supported our squadron’s aspirations, and what we aim to achieve within the community. ? 5
