THE WOMEN’S SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA GOLF ASSOCIATION
SUPPORTS THE CIF GIRLS’ REGIONAL AND STATE GOLF
CHAMPIONSHIPS
idents Report
WSCGA has conducted the CIF Southern
California Girls' Golf Championship since
1999. The SCGA formerly ran both the
Boys' and Girls' Regional Championships,
but in 1998 approached WSCGA about
taking over the girls' event.
WSCGA also conducts the State Girls' Golf
Championship every other year, an event
which rotates between Southern and
Northern California. The CIF reinstated the
State Championship for both Boys and Girls
in 2004.
Both Championships are financially
sponsored through the WSCGA Foundation.
Rules officials for the events are provided
by the WSCGA Rules Education
Committee, and the WSCGA Foundation
Trustees and WSCGA Board members serve
as scoring officials. Additionally, the
WSCGA Foundation awards medallions for
the top 6 scorers (and ties) in the Southern
California event.
This year, there was a 2-person play-off to
determine the Southern California Champion;
both players shot a 68 for the regulation round.
The final 9th spot to qualify for the State
Championship was contested in a sudden death
playoff by 5 players who tied with a 73 in
regulation play.
Participating Southern California CIF
Sections include the Southern Section, San
Diego, Los Angeles City and Central
Sections. After the completion of league
play, schools qualify for the Sectional
playoffs for both team and individual
participation. The Sectional playoffs
determine which teams and individuals
participate in the CIF-WSCGA Foundation
Southern California Championship. One
hundred and twenty four players, including
10 high school teams, then compete in 18
hole stroke play each November to
determine the 9 individuals and 3 teams to
represent Southern California at the State
Championship.
