Sasha looked puzzled, “What do you mean we live under a completely different government than they do?”

“I mean, Percy’s government system was of the United States, but also Olympus. Olympus moves around to where the flame is the brightest. In other words, they followed civilization to the West. There are gods, but there are also the ‘big three’: Zeus, the god of the sky, Poseidon, the god of the sea, and Hades, the god of the Underworld. The gods are each a specialty of some sort, such as love, war, wisdom, messengers, etc. The gods are in charge, and you do not want to get on their bad side. The gods and the mortals do not mix either. It is the law and even if the mortals think they know who the god is, it is most likely incorrect, being covered by the Mist. Vladimir’s government system, however, is Elysia. In Elysia, there are many councils placed around the world. The councils are the court, the lawmakers, and the leaders. They have it all. The oldest vampires are on the council, although sometimes the wisest are on the council as well. There is also the book called the Compendium of Conscientia, it is pretty much their laws and history. It is the same though, with the council and the gods. What they say rules over all.”

Sasha just stared at me, “Man, you have got to stop paying attention to these things so much. Books aren’t meant to be your life, okay? And yeah, it makes sense. In the U.S., there are the three branches of the government and they all the people, elect someone in each position of the branches, and that is how our government work in harmony. We don’t have a ‘book’ so to say, but we do have laws and regulations. We, is made up. It is the same here, though, about their word being over all else. It is typical in governments.”

Now, it was my turn to stare, “You’re talking about me needing to stop paying attention to things? Says the person who just told me the entire structure of the government, no problem, yet says they hate history, politics, and the economy.” We both burst out laughing, suddenly gathering some more stares.

“Well, you’re right. I would want to be in the life I live now though. The government system is so much more… fair. Those grumpy old vampires and overpowered gods need to stop being so totalitarianistic.”

I smiled, “That is the best thing I have heard all day. But anyway, lunch is almost over, we should get to class. See you in 8th period.” As I walked out of the cafeteria, I couldn’t help but think of how I, too, am glad to be in this government instead of in the fictional ones I read about.
