15 • Experiences with books: Children will listen to read-aloud books about shadows and explore pictures and photos in books independently. • Emergent writing: Children will record their own shadow observations through drawing, tracing, and writing. Science • A shadow is made when an object blocks the light • A shadow shows the shape of an object but it doesn’t show colors or details (a smile or a frown) • You can change the shape of a shadow by moving and turning your body or the object. • Each light source directed at an object will create shadow. • As you move s light source around an object, the object’s shadow moves and its length and shape change. • Combine shadows to make different shadow shapes Cognitive • Observe and understand cause and effect • Develop other math concepts such as: describe, measure, record and compare the shape and size of shadows. • Predict, measure and record changes • Demonstrate an understanding of how light and shadows work • Ask and answer questions • Creative thinking skills • Critical thinking skills Physical • Recognize physical activity: You can make shadows with your body and other objects. • Fine motor: Tracing and cutting shadows
