14 Understanding Goals Before start planning the central ideas must be carefully addressed to ensure that learners understand them completely. Prior goal is to understand how the world we live in works, and specifically for this month how light and shadows work. Indeed, the central idea is that light creates shadows and reflections but we invite all Edu1st family to put their thoughts and insights in order to expand and explore this significant topic in the most creative way. Start with the Web we already created and from there lets all the teachers add something new! And as we already suggested an ongoing weekly assessment and a personal reflection will help each teacher to reinforce or/and accommodate the initial goals and objectives. Content-Related Areas The students will learn: The history and importance of light sources. That light creates shadows Concepts of reflection and refraction How light effects color Skill-Related Areas Students will become proficient in: Language and Literacy: • Expand new vocabulary: Through hands on experiences and discussions, children will become familiar with words such as shadow, light, bigger, smaller, closer and farther. • Print awareness: Children will see their words written on class charts. They will listen and/or read along as the words are read back to them.
