Aaron : It ’ s one of those hard hitters for the most part but then there is an angelic part that makes the hair on my neck stand on end every time we play it . I think it really showcases what we can do and , to be fair , it ’ s one of the favorite songs I ’ ve written so far .
Your music is so incredible ; well composed and highly polished . Believe was the song that started it all for me . Why the two year span between its release and the release of the EP , Seasons ?
Mike : Thanks ! Well , after Believe was released , we had numerous failed attempts at getting our EP together . We visited numerous studios and had two previous EP ’ s ready to be released . They just didn ’ t accurately represent our music or portray what we are trying to do . So after much delay , we decided to cut our losses and re-record what you now hear as ‘ Seasons .’ We ’ re happy with how it turned out .
Given the outcome , seems like a sound decision . Lyrically , your songs are tight . Who is the primary lyricist ?
Mike : Aaron writes 95 % of the lyrics to our songs . He usually has a strong idea of the accompanying vocal melody whilst writing guitars . Then it ’ s a matter of putting everyone ’ s part together to get a feel for the song , and writing from there .
I believe every song begins in a beautiful moment . Whether sad , or happy , a moment starts it all . With that in mind , what inspired the track Seasons ?
Aaron : You speak the truth . Seasons came about in a low part in my life , but it ’ s not one of these songs that are sad start to finish , it ’ s slowly builds up and I believe it makes the listener feel like there is a positive vibe as the songs progresses .
Aaron or Andrew ? Who is responsible for the guitars on Pictures ?
Aaron : Both of us are . Andy starts the song of and then I come in but most of the intricate parts are played by Andy .
Please give him my compliments . I was duly impressed . And , speaking of compliments , mad props for Wake Up . That song is , truly , a musical journey . Brilliantly done . I can imagine it ' s as much fun to play live as it would be to hear live . Do you take that into account when writing songs ? Which ones you feel will connect best with listeners and fans ?
Aaron : Thank you , I ’ m glad you like it :) When I ’ m initially write either lyrics or my guitar parts I am always connected with it by some emotion , either happy or sad . Most of the songs I ’ ve written are based on experiences of my life . I like to keep the songs real so people can relate to them in one way or another . I don ’ t really think initially how fun it will be to play ; that usually comes later when the song has had other elements added to it in the rehearsal stages .
Which songs do you think they connect best with ? Which ones get the best reaction when you play live ?
